Happy Holidays!

This year, we are exploring what Christmas in a renovation zone is like. What have we found? It can still be as magical and as full of friends and family as it usually is — it’s just a little more dusty than usual.

Well, it’s a lot more than a little dusty. It is full of stress and confusion and decisions that we are not prepared to make. But, it is also full of friends and talented craft people who are helping to make our renovation happen.

Some of the stress comes from this question: Is it still the holidays if your favorite traditions have to be put on hold? Who are we if we don’t deliver home made cookies through out the land? Well, we ARE us, and so we pre-planned cookies for a few very special people and tucked them in the freezer back when we had an operational oven. Most of the stress comes from this question: What the heck are we doing?!?!?!?!

But, we power through and look ahead to next season where the year the Christmas tree had to be in the kitchen and we couldn’t bake any cookies, and I broke all the dishes in a freak bathroom sink dish washing accident will become part of our story of Christmases past. And we will look back on it as one of our amazing adventures while we enjoy a glass of our homemade schnapps. By the way, bottling day was way easier in an empty kitchen!
